Daniel Sturridge is adamant that his England team-mate Jamie Vardy won’t be affected by the fact he’s currently making a decision over whether to move to Arsenal, Sky Sports report.
The Gunners have activated his Leicester City release clause, after seeing the 29-year-old fire the Foxes to Premier League glory with 24 goals. Reports Liverpool did the same but offered enormous £140k-per-week wages proved to be wide of the mark.
But Vardy is taking time in making a decision, with his current club guaranteed Champions League football – and arguably suiting his style much more than Arsenal would.
Our striker Sturridge, who is competing with Vardy for a starting spot in France this summer, thinks the former Conference forward will take it in his stride.
“That is what everyone is here to do: concentrate on England and not focus on the speculation outside of that,” he said.
“It is about going there with the right mentality and the right frame of mind, and Jamie’s exactly that way. He is not worrying about anything other than England.”
Roy Hodgson is certain to use Harry Kane as his starting centre-forward, but debate is raging whether he’ll partner the Spurs man with Vardy, or use the rapid forward from the bench.
In terms of talent, Sturridge has as much right to be in the side as any, but his injury problems throughout the campaign have seen him drop down the England pecking order. Providing he’s fit for the start of our pre-season, we’re not too fussed.
