The Mamadou Sakho saga took another turn yesterday, as it was revealed the Frenchman actually asked UEFA for his 30 day provisional ban while they undertook their investigation.
If he hadn’t have done so, he could have technically played during the end of our season, but the club would have received an awful media reaction for deploying a player who had tested positive.
Sakho’s decision meant he missed the Europa League Final and Euro 2016 with France, and now his lawyers have successfully argued the substance shouldn’t have been on the banned list anyway, our centre-back could sue UEFA.
Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to applaud Sakho for putting the club ahead of himself, although we probably think the decision was probably made in unison.
So Sakho asked to be suspended so the club weren’t tarnished while he cleared his name..
CAPTAIN. To. Right now. What a guy!

Sakho asked for the temporary ban to protect the club. Yes I’ll say it, this is one of many examples of why he should be the captain. #LFC
