Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed their interest in re-signing Joe Allen this summer.
Allen is entering the last year of his Liverpool contract and has been tipped to move on for a fresh challenge after struggling to find regular first-team football in his time with us.
A return to his former club seems the most likely solution, and Jenkins has told the South Wales Evening Post that the Swans will be keeping tabs on the midfielder’s availability.
“I think it has been well-documented that Joe is going to look at his future when he is finished out at Euro 2016,” Jenkins told the Evening Post.
“Naturally, we are interested in good players like Joe who may be available this summer given that he has a year left on his contract.
“Obviously we will keep tabs on his situation and see what happens later in the summer.”
A recent report in the Daily Star claimed that we will demand at least £10m for Allen, who joined us from Swansea in 2012 for £15m as the second signing of the Brendan Rodgers era.
During his four years with us, Allen has made 132 appearances in all competitions, of which 40 have been as a substitute, and his starting chances have decreased under Jurgen Klopp.
Nevertheless he remains a key figure for Wales, and put in a man-of-the-match display yesterday as Chris Coleman’s side won their opening Euro 2016 encounter with Slovakia in Bordeaux.
