Super-agent Mino Raiola has surprisingly claimed Liverpool are one of the clubs he had discussions with regarding Paul Pogba’s future in the past.
The French midfielder, already one of the best in the world, is a target for Real Madrid this summer – and according to Sky Sports a deal is very much a possibility.
And while it’s impossible for Liverpool to sign the Juventus superstar now, Raiola admits we’re one of the sides who previously showed a real interest – actually meeting with us for talks.
“It is not a secret. Every year I meet with Madrid, but also with United, Barcelona, City, Liverpool, Chelsea,” he said (via the Echo).
“It’s my job. In the last two years my relationship with Real Madrid is again clear and professional.
“Now there is serious dialogue, it’s positive. They know my character and how I am.”
Raiola is the agent who brokered the deal for Mario Balotelli to join Liverpool in 2014, and we’d hope he now does all he can to get the Italian forward out of the club this window as well!
In terms of Pogba, his position as one of the best in the business is already secure, and the fee to take him to pastures new will likely be a world record sum.
Liverpool, not in of the Champions League, are not targeting elite players right now (bar Mario Gotze) – and instead are focussing on ‘future stars’ who could improve tenfold under Jurgen Klopp.
Youngsters such as Marko Grujic and Loris Karius have already signed, while Piotr Zielinski and Ben Chilwell are likely arrivals as well.
