Chinese set to offload Alex Teixeira already having signed LFC target for £38m four months ago

The second half of January this year, for many Liverpool fans, was dominated by our pursuit of the Brazilian playmaker Alex Teixeira…

We made official offers, the attacker told everyone who’d listen he wanted to come and filled his social media profiles with pro-Liverpool propaganda – but Shakhtar Donetsk slapped a £38m asking price on his head – which only Jiangsu Sunig were willing to meet.

Now though, it seems Teixeira’s journey to the Far East hasn’t exactly gone to plan.

He’s scored four goals in 14 appearances, but according to Italian reports from Calciomercato, Jiangsu are considering selling the Brazilian to Inter Milan this summer.

They claim Teixeira has failed to settle and his current CSL club have been underwhelmed by his performances to date.

Many Reds were very disappointed to have missed out on Teixeira, but it appears we may have had a lucky escape. If he can’t settle in the relatively low level CSL, how would he have coped with the physicality and speed of the Premier League…?

We’re unlikely to find out, although it’ll be interesting to see how much Inter will have to pay to get the deal done – considering we made an official £24.5m bid for him back in January (via Independent).

Would we go back in and rival the Italians for his signature? Having signed Sadio Mane, almost certainly not.
