As Taafe puts it, Gerrard could be forgiven for enjoying his swansong over in MLS – but he’s desperate to pick up the title, and will put in the maximum work possible to achieve this.

There are so many footballers, both at Liverpool at elsewhere, who’d do well to take a leaf from his book.

It’s this kind of dedication that will one day make him a superb asset to Liverpool’s coaching staff, too. This season is expected to be Gerrard’s last as a professional, meaning he should be available to help Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff when the time is right.
