Atletico Madrid are apparently looking at the possibility of signing Divock Origi this summer, with the Belgian striker seen as an alternative to Diego Costa if they are unable to lure him back to Spain, according to a Bleacher Report exclusive (via the Metro).
The report originates from Bleacher Report so we’re extremely sceptical, but the story has been doing the rounds recently and the major papers are starting to pick it up too.
It’s pretty ridiculous to think we’d sell the 21-year-old at any price, as he’s not only a fantastic prospect for the future but also one of our first choice strikers ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
Daniel Sturridge is presumably still first choice, but with his injury history we need plenty of solid options. Origi really began to blossom last season and looks likely to play a big role under Jurgen Klopp, so it’s hard to see there being any truth in these rumours.
The report suggests Chelsea’s Costa is Atletico’s first-choice option, with the player potentially open to a move if he’s feeling unsettled at Stamford Bridge. Origi is a very different type of player though, which makes the story all the more unbelievable.

Even if Atletico did come knocking, Klopp would presumably be pretty quick to slam the door in their faces.
