Sadly, it looks like Joe Allen’s Liverpool tenure is coming to an end.
The club have accepted a £13m bid for the Welsh international from Mark Hughes’ Stoke City, and now, he’s having a medical with the Potters before the deal is announced, reports the Echo.
Our 26-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League side, who will likely start him alongside Gianelli Imbula in a potentially impressive midfield.
Allen didn’t travel to America with the squad because of his involvement at Euro 2016, and now he’ll depart before he gets a chance to say goodbye to his team-mates.
There were suggestions Swansea were interested in re-signing Allen, but it now looks practically certain that he’ll sign for Stoke.
Allen has only one year left on his Liverpool contract, and having decided not to offer him an extension, we had to accept a £13m bid. With the prices paid for players now though, £13m seems cheap – although he would have been able to leave for nothing on a Bosman if he’d have stayed without a fresh deal.
