Simon Mignolet has vowed to do his talking on the pitch after last week’s injury to new keeper Loris Karius meant he is almost certain to start the season as our number one.
The Belgian had presumably resigned himself to starting the season on the bench, even if he would never have publically admitted it.
However, with Karius now out for 8-10 weeks, the 28-year-old has been granted one final chance to assert himself in Klopp’s long-term plans.
“I just need to stay calm. I need to look at myself and my own performances in the games and in training. I have to keep my head down and keep working hard,” he said.
“I don’t want to speak too much about it because I want to do my talking on the pitch.
“It’s down to me to put in performances and play the best I can.”

Some sections of the fan base have been hugely critical of Mignolet’s performances, but now we all need to unite behind him.
It’s fair to say that while he does have his weaknesses in the air and in commanding his box, there are few better shot stoppers in the league.
He concluded his interview with the Echo by wishing Karius luck in his recovery:
“I wish Loris all the best.
“I hope everything goes well and I’m sure he will come back strongly from this. You don’t want to be losing players from the squad and we’ve had a number of injuries now.”
