Liverpool’s £18m transfer rumour quashed by James Pearce

Bad news Pearce strikes again!

In fairness to the man, he’s only doing his job (and very well), but we’re tired of the Echo journalist consistently rubbishing transfer stories!

Yesterday, we were strongly linked with Roma’s Argentinian midfielder Leandro Paredes, the 22-year-old who’s returned from last season’s loan spell at Empoli – but according to Pearce – it’s not happening.

Liverpool’s owners ARE keen on joining forces with China Everbright – who value us at £800m

After selling Christian Benteke to Crystal Palace for a fee which could rise to £32m, Liverpool have actually made money this summer – despite expensive deals for Gini Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane.

We’ve brought in seven new players but fans are still crying out for a left-back and maybe even a holding midfielder, in the Paredes mould, by the end of the transfer window.

Defensively Liverpool were outrageously poor against Burnley at the weekend, and in two Premier League matches so far, we’ve conceded five goals – hardly the kind of form that will see us in contention for a top four finish.

Still, we’d suggest it’s unlikely that we’ll buy somebody before the end of August. Klopp’s sticking with Alberto Moreno and James Milner at left-back and has Emre Can, Lucas and Kevin Stewart to play at the base of midfield.

Time will tell if this proves sufficient.
