This is a transfer rumour that seemingly won’t go away, although we’re still taking it with a large pinch of salt.

The Mirror, among other publications, have linked us to Hoffenheim’s centre-back Niklas Sule. The young German defender is only 21-years-old, but stands at about 6 ft. 5″ and looks like he’s about to enter his thirties!

Many rate him as one of the most impressive young defenders in Europe right now, due to his brutish physicality and aerial prowess.

Liverpool are well stocked in central defence right now, with Ragnar Klavan, Lucas, Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho providing backup to Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren.

If Sakho remains discontented with his role away from the first-team though, the Frenchman might depart at some point, freeing up some room.

Sule would be expensive and the kind of player who’s have an expectation of regular minutes.

The question is, do we need another centre-back? Until Matip and Lovren have had a chance to forge their potentially excellent partnership, maybe not.
