Liverpool phenomenon one of five men to make the shortlist for the BBC African Footballer of the Year award

It comes as no surprise that Sadio Mane has been named as one of five candidates to win the BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

The Senegalese star has made an incredible impact at Liverpool since arriving from Southampton in the summer.

His £34 million move made him the most expensive African player in history and he has certainly taken significant strides towards justifying his hefty fee.

Reds can vote for Mane via the BBC.com website.

The five-man shortlist:

1. Sadio Mane- Liverpool
2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang- Borussia Dortmund
3. Andre Ayew- West Ham
4. Riyad Mahrez- Leicester City
5. Yaya Toure- Manchester City

The 24-year-old has been crucial to our explosive attacking force so far this season, adding a new dimension with his pace and directness.

He faces stiff competition from a fellow Premier League star in Riyad Mahrez though, who of course played a key role in helping Leicester to their famous title win last season.

Mane is more than worthy of his place on such a star-studded short list, having scored six goals and made four assists in 11 matches for us so far.

Let’s show him our support, Reds.
