‘If I was Klopp’- worried Anfield legend urges club to sign title winning goalkeeper if he becomes available

The debate surrounding Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation continued yesterday after Simon Mignolet was criticised for his role in Stoke City’s opening goal.

There were immediate question marks over the Belgian’s positioning and also his effort to keep out Jonathan Walters’ header at the near post.

Stoke’s goal proved to be Liverpool’s only downfall in the game as the Reds went on to dominate throughout before eventually coming away with a 4-1 win to take them back up to second in the Premier League.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has explained how he would deal with his former club’s goalkeeping situation if he was in Jurgen Klopp’s shoes.

He told Sky Sports: “If someone said to me: ‘The window’s open, you can get Joe Hart’, you do it.”

“If I was Jurgen Klopp I would do it. It is a great chance that Liverpool have got at the moment – it may be different next year with European football coming in, managers have come into this country now with another year’s experience.”

“The goalkeeper makes a mistake – he’s got to save it.”

“Liverpool have got a goalkeeping problem, it’s not just one individual. The reason Loris Karius was brought in is because Jurgen Klopp didn’t think Simon Mignolet was good enough – he’s now gone back to him.”

Yesterday marked Mignolet’s first mistake since breaking back into the starting eleven and it can be said that poor defending in front of him was as equally culpable.

The option to sign Joe Hart in January would be incredibly difficult for the club to turn down regardless of the faith Klopp has in his current goalkeepers.

A title challenging side needs winners and the former Manchester City shot stopper certainly fits that bill.
