The Liverpool boss has made his demand for hard work, energy and professionalism no secret since arriving in the Premier League and has outlined what he looks for in young and upcoming stars. He has also discussed first-team development coach Pepijn Lijnders’ group of youth players in the process.
Speaking about what he looks for in a player in an excellent interview with Jonathan Northcroft in the Sunday Times, he said: “Of course, skills set. Sometimes I look in Pep’s Talent Group and say ‘My God. He’s 15… you can’t believe it.’ But skills are only one thing. Attitude is what they should bring.”
“If you have to force somebody to work… it’s no problem, once, on a bad weather day. But if you have to do it every day the boy has no chance. Being too cool, too early, is always a ¬mistake.”
