Premier League legend hails Brazilian as Jurgen Klopp’s favourite player

It’s amazing what can change in a week.

Roberto Firmino put a couple of quiet games behind him and looked some where near to his old self during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United, reminding everyone of how important he is to this team.

The introduction of his friend and fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho marked a long awaited reunion between the two and seemed to spring Firmino into a different mood having already enjoyed an standout game.

His efforts didn’t go unrecognised either with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry picking up on the work he does for the team.

Henry told Sky Sports via the Express: “He is Jurgen Klopp’s favourite player. Not because he has the quality of an Ibrahimovic but what he does in midfield is outstanding.”

“Yesterday, I was in awe of what he was doing – at times it was too much. The way he bends his run forces Utd to play it back. The only thing he doesn’t have yet is [score goals].”

“He is almost first in everything, tackles, recoveries, sprints [for Liverpool]. But this man, I am sure is always the first guy Klopp thinks about when he thinks about his front three.”

“Why? Because he does the other side of the job that sometimes people don’t think about when they refer to a striker.”

He doesn’t emerge as a prolific scorer but this comes down to those around him chipping in with goals as opposed to him failing as a true forward. Everything Klopp’s men do is as a team and that is from their attacking play to the goals being spread throughout the side.

At his best, he is an absolute joy to watch. Seeing him begin to rediscover his form is exciting and a much needed boost heading into the rest of the season.
