Following Coutinho news, Liverpool will offer two more new contracts to first-team regulars

News has broken recently that discussions are underway to elongate Coutinho’s contract, but two more key players could also be rewarded with fresh deals, writes James Pearce in the Echo.

The paper’s LFC correspondent was answering fan questions via Twitter and the futures of Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana was posed to him.

“Yes, Lallana will certainly get a new contract and the same goes for Lovren. They are both down to their last two years. Both are regarded as important to the future under Klopp,” he said.

It should be no surprise that Lallana’s getting an extension, as along with Sadio Mane, he’s been our best player this season – scoring and assisting seven goals apiece.

He’s been poorer recently, but that’s because he’s been covering for his Senegalese team-mate who’s at the AFCON. Once he returns to central midfield, we hope he hits the ground running.

Not all Liverpool fans are as confident about Lovren’s long-term suitability, however. The Croat is inconsistent and was very poor versus Swansea, although his defensive team-mates were too.

When alongside Joel Matip though he’s actually been very good, in the most, so perhaps the boss is trusting Lovren’s levels to improve when our best centre-back returns to the fold.
