Thankfully, we have been saved from many getting too excited about a rumoured transfer deal with the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce rubbishing claims of a proposed move for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola had reported that Reds officials had flown out to Portugal to discuss a deal for the defensive midfielder, only for those claims to be instantly denied back here in England.

We begin to wonder where these rumours come from in the first place. Nevertheless, it keeps everyone on their toes- even if Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that there is likely to be no new signings this month.
Liverpool will have actually signed one of these players we are linked to one day and nobody will believe it having been misled so many times before.
Fear not, though. We will at least get the chance to describe Sadio Mane as ‘like a new signing’ when he returns from the African Cup of Nations.
