Quincy Promes has played down the speculation at the start of January that led many fans to believe Liverpool would sign the Dutch winger.
The Dutchman plays for Spartak Moscow in Russia and was touted as the short-term replacement for Sadio Mane, who’s been at the AFCON.
Liverpool’s midfielder Gini Wijnaldum spoke up the chances of a transfer, but according to Promes, he never considered it – although we doubt his claim that he ‘never’ discussed our club with his friend is true.

He told Sport Express, cited in the Star: “I never thought about other clubs. Never. Some things were said, but I do not know about that.
“I just know that I play for Spartak, and people who really know me understand this.”
“Yes, he says he wants me [at Liverpool], because he likes me as a player. That’s what he said,” he added.
“I talked with him, of course. But it wasn’t about Liverpool. We’re just friends.
“I repeat: everyone who knows me understands what I think, and fans of Spartak know and remember what I said.
“So I do not understand why this issue is discussed at all.”
As it’s turned out, Liverpool could have done with a new winger this month, but for whatever reason, the players Jurgen Klopp wanted were not available for a fair price.
We’ve won one game in seven though, and having crashed out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening, our season has somewhat derailed.
Now, there’s the FA Cup to focus on and making sure we finish in the top four. To do that, we need our players fit and a united fanbase behind a manager who’s desperate to succeed and perfect for Liverpool.
