John Barnes believes Chelsea can be caught as he gives hope to Liverpool’s top four chances

That’s the spirit.

Nothing is decided in February. Just as nothing was decided during November and December when Liverpool were dominating sides.

Reds legend John Barnes believes his old team are still capable of earning a top four spot despite their recent struggles and lack of activity in the transfer window.

January was a month to forget and Saturday’s clash with Tottenham poses as the ideal opportunity start this turnaround.

Barnes has backed Jurgen Klopp and reminded all that there is still a lot of football to be played between now and May.

He told the London Evening Standard: “I don’t think Chelsea are out of sight but Liverpool need to improve – the title race starts in March.”

“Liverpool can still finish in the top four if everyone gets behind Jurgen Klopp, who is a very good coach.”

“Unfortunately we didn’t get anyone in January. Signings would have helped but it’s not all doom and gloom. We haven’t got a huge squad so with a 14-15 man squad they will be tired.”

“Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all have bigger squads. City can take out [Sergio] Aguero and bring in [Gabriel] Jesus.”

Hull has to have been the wake up call for Klopp and his players with both Manchester United and Everton creeping up on the Reds in the Premier League table.

Top four is still very much the expectation given how we started the season. Achieving this will require a monumental effort from the players but they have proved they have the talent to pull it off.

It is going to take every bit of Klopp’s energy, resilience and passion in addition to that of his players to not only reproduce the performance levels that saw us enjoy such a great start to the season but also to reignite this club’s campaign.
