Klopp nails it with metaphor to describe Liverpool’s season

Saturday’s thrilling 3-1 win over Arsenal proved to be both exciting and frustrating.

It was a completely contrasting performance to the one that saw Liverpool fall to a 3-1 defeat over Leicester last week. The intensity was back, as was the work rate, the confidence and the quality.

The players finally looked to have woken up again following the mid-season trip to La Manga and put in the kind of display that suggested we should be up there with the favourites to secure a top four place.

Arsenal did not have an answer for the football we were producing, nor could they could they come up with enough in the final third to seriously trouble our defence.

Jurgen Klopp was spot on with his assessment of Liverpool and his insistence on moving on from disappointing games such as the trip to Leicester.

“We are kind of the rollercoaster of the league – a lot of ups and, meanwhile, too many downs,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We had a really hard week. Directly after the [Leicester] game, I found a few words and it was not asking for friendships. It was pretty clear. Next day, we made the analysis, which was nothing to enjoy for me when I did it and not for the boys when they saw it. But there was a point in the week when we actually had to finish the Leicester game.”

“But only if you are really silly then you let the bad things have more influence on you than the good things. We have to remind ourselves of the good things and we are ready to go again, if you want.”

As impressive as a win against Arsenal is, three points against Burnley next week would be more telling in terms of what level this team is at right now. Two wins in a row would do the players a world of good and potentially set them up for a strong finish.

It was a great response so let’s enjoy this one for now.
