It wasn’t quite ‘Roberto Firmino against Roberto Soldado’ but it was another long-awaited glimpse of some Brazilian flair from Liverpool’s illusive forward.
Confidence was high and Arsenal were penned in their own box. Sadio Mane followed up his bursting run inside with a chipped pass to Firmino, who from around 15 yards out chested the ball up and swivelled before his eventual shot was blocked.
It was an example of the unpredictability and imagination that Reds fans love Firmino for. It was great to see him back on the score sheet again and thriving at the centre of an attacking force that troubled Arsenal’s defence throughout.
His movement was back, his composure and class on the ball was back and his work rate was back. Firmino’s goals are needed if Liverpool are to enjoy a strong finish to the season and have any hopes of securing Champions League football.
We need these moments of brilliance on a weekly basis and not only against the league’s best teams but also those sitting further down in the table.
