Simon Mignolet didn’t have too much to do in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Arsenal but certainly played his part in protecting Liverpool from an early second half fight back.
The Belgian shot-stopper pulled off a great save in the 48th minute to tip Olivier Giroud’s towering header onto the cross bar and preserve his side’s lead.
It was a vital save at a important time in the match with the half time introduction of Alexis Sanchez appearing to threaten an Arsenal revival.
Mignolet will have been disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet especially after coming so close to stopping Danny Welbeck’s effort. Having said this, he will have been a lot happier about the performances of the defenders in front of him who for the majority of the game put their bodies in the way of anything Arsenal threw at them.
A relatively quiet day for the Reds goalkeeper and a similarly solid display from the back four is what we need to see more often.
