Marko Grujic made his comeback from injury on Monday as he featured in a 5-1 win for Liverpool’s U23s over Reading.
The midfielder played 60 minutes as he made his first appearance for the Reds since November, putting in a steady performance and displaying glimpses of his talent as a box-to-box man.
Similarly to his impressive pre-season, Grujic needed no second invitation to get forward and also often found himself helping out the team defensively.
Though the minor errors were inevitably there, it was promising to see him both back on the pitch and also looking to continue where he left off. The 20-year-old reminded everyone of his power and athleticism as he continued to put himself about and stride forward with the ball when given the opportunity to do so.
It was a display that at times was all too reminiscent of what we saw from Emre Can during his early days at Anfield and was perhaps an alert of how much more we should be seeing from the German nowadays.
All in all, it was great to see the Serbian back and playing alongside the club’s fellow youth stars.
