Lineker & Gerrard name their ideal Liverpool signing

Steven Gerrard would love Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Liverpool, but accepts it’s very unlikely.

The Gabonese is one of the best strikers in world football, scoring 28 goals so far this term, having plundered 39 in 2015/16.

Real Madrid are very keen, but Gary Lineker speculated that he’d be perfect for ourselves.

“He’s exactly what Liverpool need, isn’t he Steven,” Lineker asked on BT Sport during the midweek Champions League coverage.

“Yeah, but if he’s in this type of form, he’ll alert a lot of clubs – not just Liverpool,” Gerrard said.

“He attacks the frame all the time and he gets tap ins because of his movement.”

We’d quite like Manuel Neuer between the sticks, Thiago Silva at the back and Toni Kroos anchoring the midfield, but it’s just not going to happen.

Aubameyang would command over £70m, which is more than double Liverpool’s transfer record.

We do desperately need a forward who can score over 20 goals each season, but are more likely to be able to attract Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, who’s 25 and still hasn’t exited Ligue 1.

The Frenchman will be dear also, but more attainable – especially if we finish in the top four.
