Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have been so unimpressed by Andre Gomes this season that they’ve specifically asked the club to sell him this summer, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon.
The 22-year-old arrived for huge money last summer, but has so far not impressed and cannot get in Luis Enrique’s team.
If Messi doesn’t want the Portuguese about, his time at the Nou Camp is likely up – but should Liverpool consider buying him?
Failing to make the grade at Barcelona is not an indication of a poor player. Alexis Sanchez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are two examples of this and it seems like Gomes will definitely be available.
He’s an excellent passer with serious technical ability and would provide great competition for either Jordan Henderson in the deep-lying playmaker spot or in one of the box-to-box roles alongside the skipper.
Gomes is a big talent, but the fact he’s been so poor at Barca (who basically have all the ball in La Liga games), has led some to suggest he’s not elite.
If Liverpool did make an enquiry, it would be interesting to see how much he’d cost although there’s no indication Jurgen Klopp likes him.
