Former Liverpool favourite Steve McManaman has set out a lengthy list of positions that he believes Jurgen Klopp must address during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Recruitment at the end of the season is inevitable with Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group owners set to give Klopp the biggest transfer kitty in the club’s history.
The recent injury crisis has reaffirmed the need to bolster the squad and McManaman has outlined the areas he feels must be prioritised.
Speaking on BT Sport after Liverpool’s 2-1 win away to Stoke City, he said: “They showed a lot of character which is great but with Liverpool you can pinpoint areas where they could improve that starting XI.”
“James Milner has done a wonderful job but he’s not a left-back, you could go and get a better left-back to play in that position.”
“Yes, I think they need a centre-back and there’s talk about the goalkeeper. I still think they need one more winger, possibly two, to give them options when it comes to trying to break the lesser teams down when games get condensed.”

It could be argued that there is a case for every position being strengthened for the purpose of adding some depth to this squad.
Sadio Mane’s emphatic season and the extent to which Liverpool have missed him when he has been unavailable to play has demonstrated how important it is another wide man is brought in. The arrival of someone with similar traits to the Senegalese forward in terms of his pace and explosive movement promises to be an ideal fit to the style of play Klopp has implemented.
Adding to the spine of the team is also a must having seen injuries to the likes of Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren seriously disrupt our season at times.
