Simon Mignolet’s save to deny what seemed like a certain goal for Stoke City’s Sadio Berahino somewhat overshadowed another magnificent stop that he had made earlier on in the match.
The Belgian was at hand to make up for a dreadful mistake by Georginio Wijnaldum. The midfielder’s misdirected header, subsequently travelling back towards his own goal, threatened to have similar consequences to his under-hit back pass against Bournemouth in mid-week that was intercepted and dispatched by Benik Afobe.
Thankfully, Mignolet was there to rescue the situation by throwing his body in the way of Charlie Adam’s strike after the ball had fallen to the former Reds midfielder six-yards out.
It was a save that stopped Liverpool from going 2-0 behind and one that can be seen to have triggered a fight-back from Jurgen Klopp’s men. Mignolet’s teammates have a lot to thank him for after he made two match-winning saves on the way towards securing a terrific three points.
