This is a transfer rumour that gives us genuine excitement, although it’s unfortunately not come from an especially reliable source…
The Express has reported that Liverpool are ‘lining up a shock move’ for Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa.
The Brazilian has fallen down Carlo Ancelotti’s pecking order, despite being so brilliant for Pep Guardiola last season.
The Italian prefers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben in the wide areas and despite being arguably the Bundesliga’s best player during 2015/16, Costa’s spent much of this campaign on the bench.

As a result, he’s unhappy, with Bayern president Uli Hoeness suggesting recently that every player has his price when asked about Costa’s future.
In terms of attributes, the 26-year-old has exactly what we need. He’s rapid, incredibly skilful and possesses end-quality in abundance.
He can play on the right or left and would be mighty handy in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. With Costa on the left, we could use Sadio Mane on the right and have Coutinho pulling the strings at no.10 – it’s certainly a mouthwatering prospect.
The report suggests a £35m fee would be required, which in this day and age – is probably reasonable. If Julian Brandt proves unattainable, Costa would be a mighty interesting alternative.
