Guillem Balague’s latest assessment of the rumours linking Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona will undoubtedly please Liverpool fans but also strangely lead them to defend the Brazilian’s talent.
The Spanish football expert has reaffirmed the idea that the La Liga side, despite constant reports, are not interested in Coutinho. It’s for this reason that we can’t help but stick up for him in belief of the idea that he is, or one day will be, capable of playing for the Spanish giants. That said, we certainly aren’t complaining.
In his column for Sky Sports, Balague said: “This has turned into a weekly question. His entourage is clearly working to move him to the Nou Camp. There are different reasons why Barca will not go for him.”
“One is the cost and the other is they think he’s a forward rather than a midfielder. And of course they are completely sorted in attack.”
“They are looking for a different type of midfielder. Nobody doubts Coutinho’s quality but Barcelona don’t have the money to be getting three or four top players for their first-choice line-up.”

We like Jurgen Klopp’s thinking. Express how Coutinho’s future is in a deeper midfield position knowing full well this should put Barcelona off.
Reds can relax over his position at the club and now look ahead to seeing what he can offer in the No.8 role that saw him dominate in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.
Let’s hope that, for the time being, those rumours tipping Coutinho for a union with fellow countryman Neymar finally disappear.
