AS Monaco are willing to sell Benjamin Mendy and the French left-back would be perfect for Liverpool, claims Gab Marcotti.
The 22-year-old shone in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League last term and has been linked to a number of top clubs, including ourselves and Manchester City, as a result.
“There are some people Monaco are willing to let go,” the respected Italian journalist told ESPN.
“Bakayoko is one. Mendy more than Sidibe. That’s it. They are shopping around to get the best offer.
“He’d be a good fit [for Liverpool].”
Liverpool are likely to sell Alberto Moreno, and with interest in Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon ending, a left-back this summer is clearly a priority.
But the fact we were originally going for Sessegnon, who’s only just turned 17, suggests Jurgen Klopp only requires a backup for James Milner and not a replacement.
It would need Liverpool to break our transfer record to acquire Mendy, who by all accounts is much more likely to join City anyway.
While a move for the French international would make sense to plenty of fans, we just can’t see it happening.
Who we turn to in an effort to enhance the left-back spot though remains to be seen.
