Klopp responds to Mourinho’s jibe in typical Jurgen fashion

during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, second leg match between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge on March 11, 2015 in London, England.

In typical classy fashion, Jurgen Klopp has refused to get drawn into a war of words with Manchester United’s wind-up merchant Jose Mourinho.

A few days back, Mourinho commented on the fact Klopp hasn’t won a trophy with Liverpool yet and claimed we’d struggle in the Premier League due to our Champions League participation.

Klopp though, isn’t bothered…

“I’m not interested in what Jose Mourinho says,” Klopp told the Independent. “Why should I talk about Manchester United? Jose is talking about us, yes. We had a season of what Man United had the year before. I don’t know if anybody asked us how it felt (then).”

“The Europa League was hard,” Klopp added. “Yes, Chelsea will feel also the difference, they played something like 13 players last season. But it’s also not my problem if they use only 11, well done. I do not want to be part of this – I am not interested.”

“I’m not interested in what other clubs are doing until we play them,” he said. “So they can make the best business or the worst business, I’m not in it.

“I heard, of course a few things that they have done. Strikers, good. Wayne Rooney, you don’t have to talk about. The centre-half (Michael) Keane came. Good. So a lot of really good business. (Davy) Klaassen. So it’s all good.

“There is a lot of respect and if they’ve done good business, well done. But when we face them we still want to win.”

Mourinho has classically always tried to play mind-games with other managers, but the reality is that in his past two Premier League seasons with Chelsea and Manchester United – he was fired after being in the bottom half of the table, and ended sixth in 2016/17 having made Paul Pogba the most expensive player of all time…

This summer he’s spent another fortune on Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof, but we’re confident that Klopp knows exactly what he’s doing…

Mo Salah looks an inspired signing already, and providing we buy the centre-half we so desperately require – this season’s going to be just fine.

Like Klopp says, let’s focus on ourselves.
