Well known Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has leapt to the defence of Barcelona over the repeated false reports that they’ve finalised a deal with Coutinho.
At Empire of the Kop, we’ve been consistently shooting these bogus stories down – but many fans have still grown worried that our no.10 is on his way out of the club to the Catalan giants.
ESPN especially, but also Yahoo Sports and multiple Spanish outlets, published false reports that we’d accepted a bid from Barcelona – in the aim for clicks rather than telling readers the truth.
They may have racked up big ad revenue, but in our opinion, their reputation has been sullied beyond repair.

Balague though has claimed they haven’t been encouraged by Barcelona, although in the case of the Spanish propaganda arms such as Mundo Deportivo, we beg to differ.
Here’s what he had to say:

2. They plan to reject the next one too. They do not want to sell. FCB admit they might return but they also looking for alternatives

3. FCB always knew it’s a long saga and the search for media clicks (not the club) is what brought about false stories of imminent transfer
