Liverpool fans have been left bemused after yet another example of the inconsistency of refereeing in the Premier League.
Anger amongst Reds was reignited on Monday night when West Ham’s Winston Reid avoided red after catching Huddersfield’s Steve Mounie in the face with a high-foot whilst contesting for the ball.
The challenge, ironically, came just days after Sadio Mane was sent off for a high challenge on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, and a day after Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie was only given a yellow card for his high-boot on Swansea’s Alfie Mawson.
A both timely and untimely reminder, depending on how Reds choose to perceive it.
Two incidents have given those who opposed the Mane dismissal good reason to stand by their opinion, whilst also those who agreed with the red card reason to question the standard of refereeing. The kind of division that needs to be eradicated and the kind of division that will only be eradicated when there is more consistency.
Here’s how reds reacted…

Matt Ritchie: booked.
Winston Reid: not even booked.Question to refs: where is your consistency? pic.twitter.com/DQuqfevSjc
