Multiple title winning former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has claimed that regardless of results, Jurgen Klopp should get at least until the end of NEXT season in the job.
The pundit reckons that even if we continue our poor run and endure a miserable season, Klopp deserves one more crack at it in 2018/19, when we’ll have Naby Keita (and hopefully Virgil van Dijk) in the side, of course.
“No (he shouldn’t get sacked at the end of the season),” Nicol said on ESPN FC, cited by the Express.
“But I would suggest that the following season, if it’s the same thing, then yes (he should get sacked).”
“So yes (I’d give him 18 months)…”
Nicol’s comments are probably fair, in reflection. If Klopp’s Liverpool go backwards and miss the top four for two consecutive seasons, perhaps it’s time to try another option.
Of course, we hope that isn’t the case and that Klopp sees out the remaining five years of his deal successfully.
Luckily for him, he has the unwavering support of FSG and any Liverpool fan of note, too.
We’re desperate for him to do well, which in part may explain the overreaction to some of our difficulties so far this term.
The reality is that we’ve lost one game in the Premier League, none in Europe and are one point off the top four.
