Liverpool have made signing Jan Oblak a priority claim Rush The Kop, a Liverpool blog who we’re pretty sure got their inspiration from us!
“Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has become a top transfer priority for Liverpool in the wake of another error strewn Premier League display at Spurs,” they write.
We have no idea if they’re right and what sources they’re using, but would be mightily pleased if it were proven true.
The Slovenian is right up there with Manuel Neuer and David de Gea as a candidate for the ‘Best keeper in the world’ gong…
Aged just 24, it’s scary to think how good he could and likely will become.
Neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius are anywhere near good enough for us long-term, as proven by their performances this season.
Oblak would not only improve our goalkeeping position tenfold, but also the backline, due to his commanding presence and superb communication.
Naturally, fans swarmed Twitter to discuss the rumour.
Oblak has a an £80m release clause according to AS, which would make him the world’s most expensive keeper of all time.
However, he’d give any club ten years of service and at Liverpool, we need a top keeper more than any other big club in Europe.
Obviously, it’s no guarantee that FSG would allow such an enormous sum to spent on a keeper, considering their average net spend since they bought the club.
Still, it needs to be done.
Here’s hoping.
