Many Liverpool fans won’t even remember Peter Gulacsi at the club…

The Hungarian was on our books for five years between 2008 and 2013, but never made a first-team appearance.

He enjoyed loan spells at Hereford, Tranmere and Hull, before ultimately joining Red Bull Salzburg. It was in Austria he began to flourish, earning a move to Red Bull’s sister club Rb Leipzig in 2015.

In Germany, he’s gone on to another level and as a result is being targeted by Arsenal to replace Petr Cech, who signed from Chelsea for £10m two years ago [BBC Sport].

ESPN state that Arsenal are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, with Cech 35-years-old and diminishing. They also claim Chelsea are watching Gulacsi’s progress, with Thibaut Courtois yet to renew terms…

German magazine Kicker currently rate Gulacsi as the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga in Manuel Neuer’s absence, which is impressive considering the likes of Timo Horn and Bernd Leno.

We’ve watched a fair amount of Gulacsi this season while checking out Naby Keita, and he looks impressive.

It’s a shame he never made the grade at Anfield, as he’d arguably be an upgrade on what we have right now.
