Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was very lucky not to be sent off against Stoke last night.
With Mame Biram Diouf through, our Belgian sprinted out of goal and took him out just outside the area.
Thankfully, he was only booked with the referee considering that Joe Gomez was covering sufficiently.
In reality, Gomez wasn’t close enough and Diouf would have rolled the ball into an empty net….
“I don’t know if I was the last man. But I had to bring him down because otherwise it was a goal,” Mignolet said immediately after the game.
You can watch his interview below:
We 100% accept that the 29-year-old should have been dismissed and can only be grateful the luck was this time on our side.
Throughout the campaign it really hasn’t been, so we’ll take this fortunate decision and hope for many more to come!
Mignolet will keep his spot against Brighton at the weekend, but will likely make way for Loris Karius in the Champions League next week for the Spartak Moscow tie.
