Liverpool are set to act on their interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by launching a bid for the striker when the January transfer window opens.
Jurgen Klopp’s previous ties with the Gabon star during his time in charge of Borussia Dortmund has regularly fuelled speculation the German would be interested in reuniting with the forward.
The Reds’ boss appears ready to make that happen as he looks to bolster his already-impressive array of attacking options.
Liverpool are ready to launch a bid for the 28-year-old after the turn of the year, with Daniel Sturridge expected to leave the club in search of regular first-team football, reports the Daily Express.
Dortmund’s intentions to sell Aubameyang come as a surprise given his prolific form for the Bundesliga club over the past four years.
His pace in behind and counterattacking expertise very much fit the bill as traits designed to thrive in Klopp’s attacking system and approach.
The added experience he boasts at European level also makes him a potentially marquee acquisition capable of helping Liverpool re-assert themselves as Champions League regulars.
With Saturday’s emphatic 5-1 win over Brighton fresh in the memory, the addition of a man with 17 goals in 19 games so far this season would make Liverpool an attacking force to be feared by all.
As for Sturridge, few would blame him for seeking a move in aid of fighting for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Though his frustrating injury setbacks have visibly had a lasting effect on his rhythm and form, there remains a glimmer of flair and characteristic unpredictability that will still enable him to shine elsewhere.
A man blessed with so much footballing ability deserves his chance, at the very least.
