Liverpool’s scouts would have been mightily impressed with what they saw at the weekend; in Italy to check out Lazio’s up and coming star Sergei Milinković-Savić.
According to Serbian outlet Sportski Zurnal, our talent spotters were in Atalanta, along with those from Juve, Barca, Monaco, both Manchester clubs PSG, to check out the 22-year-old powerhouse midfielder.
Milinković-Savić scored two goals in a 3-3 draw, earning the Man of the Match award in the process.
This term, he’s scored five goals in Serie A and two in the Europa League, adding a further two assists to boot.
He’s a big presence in Lazio’s midfield, standing at 6ft.3′ and packed up with upper body muscle.
The talented youngster looks a great option to replace Emre Can, who’s departing on a Bosman, but the report suggests Lazio won’t sell for less than £88m – which would make him one of the most expensive players in the history of football.
We’re already buying Naby Keita for central midfield next term, but could do with someone of Milinković-Savić’s ability alongside him in Jurgen Klopp’s ideal three-man midfield.
Whether we’ll be to able to capture him though with Europe’s biggest and best clubs in pursuit is another matter, of course.
