According to the Echo, Jorginho is a target for the ‘no.6 role,’ especially with club captain Jordan Henderson’s injury record.
“He is a defensive midfielder in a traditional sense, operating at the base of Maurizio Sarri’s three-man midfield in the 4-3-3 set-up,” writes Kristian Walsh. “All 26 of his appearances for the Gli Azzurri this season have come sitting in front of the back four.
“Competing with Jordan Henderson at the base of Klopp’s midfield would appear the safest bet. With the uncertainty over Emre Can’s future persisting, Jorginho would offer further options in that position.”
As we’ve mentioned for the past week, Jorginho is quite literally exactly what we need.
Not only does he provide a shield in front of the defence, but the 26-year-old controls tempo and can pick a long pass, too. Jorginho in a deep-lying playmaking role, with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane running in behind is a mouthwatering prospect.
What’s more, Napoli are extremely attacking, so he’s used to his fullbacks and fellow midfielders bombing forward.
Not only is Jorginho an upgrade on Henderson, but he, alongside the incoming Naby Keita, actually makes the midfield a significant strength, rather than the weakness it occasionally is now.
