LFC stars tell Mignolet to ‘calm down’ over manic training, in order to win back no.1 spot

Simon Mignolet doesn’t know where he’ll be next season, but sadly for the Belgian, we’re pretty sure it won’t be at Liverpool.

He arrived at the club in 2013, but despite some spells of good form, has never truly won the confidence of supporters who’ve been crying out for an elite stopper ever since.

Loris Karius was named no.1 until the end of the season in January and Mignolet’s had to content himself with a spot on the bench.

In all likelihood, he won’t play for Liverpool again, but the 30-year-old has promised to maintain his professionalism until after a decision is made after the World Cup.

Mignolet told La Derniere Heure: “I don’t know what the future holds for me.

“I have three years left on my contract at Liverpool.

“Of course I want to play. The coach knows that, and I have talked about it with him. I will think about my future after the World Cup.

“I keep focused, just in case. An injury, a suspension, anything can happen and change the course of a season. I stay professional in order to be ready.

“I was disappointed. In football, it’s rare to get a clear answer, but sometimes you have to let things go. I know that becoming number one again won’t be easy.

“I mustn’t let my head drop. I have always worked and I continue to do so.

“The boys in the squad even tell me to calm things down in terms of the amount of work I do, but it’s in my nature.”

Mignolet would be the perfect Liverpool player in that he’s a terrific role model, a lovely guy and as mentioned, a consummate professional – but he’s sadly just not good enough.

We hope he finds a club that suits him and enjoys his thirties there.

At Liverpool though, we need Karius to maintain his current form until the summer or we’ll have to bring in a new stopper.

World-class names like Alisson and Jan Oblak have been thrown out, but we’re not sure Jurgen Klopp will even attempt to replace the German.
