Roma boss drops hint over team selection vs Liverpool

Edin Dzeko

Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco has made it no secret he is already thinking about Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Liverpool.

Anfield will play stage to the first meeting between the two clubs, before Jurgen Klopp’s men visit the Stadio Olimpico on May 2.

Di Francesco has hinted he may rotate his team for Saturday’s trip to face SPAL in Serie A, with Klopp faced with the same selection dilemma for his side’s game away to West Brom.

Whilst striker Edin Dzeko looks in contention to start for the Italian club, former Manchester City teammate Aleksandar Kolarov is a confirmed absentee.

Speaking in his press conference, Di Francesco said: “Perotti is ready, I need to decided if he’ll start or enter the match later on. Kolarov on the other hand won’t be selected,” per Gianluca Di Marzio.

“Who will start between Dzeko and Schick? Edin is very motivated, I’ll evaluate if he’ll play or not. Either he plays or Schick. Who between Silva and Peres on the left? Silva is ahead of Luca Pellegrini, one of the two will start.”

Roma are still sweating over the fitness of star defender Kostas Manolas after the Greek international picked up a knock in his side’s recent 0-0 with Lazio.

Back on Merseyside, Liverpool have welcomed Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez back to full training, with the latter having been out injured since last month’s friendly between England and the Netherlands.

Lovren’s return comes at an ideal time amid arguably his best run of form for the club and a period in which he has performed superbly alongside Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds are still, however, without Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne for their trip to the Hawthorns, whilst Joel Matip is certain to miss the rest of the season.

Rumours have already surfaced suggesting that Roberto Firmino could be handed a rest to preserve his energy for Liverpool’s midweek showdown.
