Liverpool remain keen on €100m La Liga star – despite new circumstances

Liverpool undoubtedly remain in the process of assessing Loris Karius’ progress in detailed preparation for the summer transfer window.

The German’s improved form in recent months has started to diffuse rumours linking the Reds to a new shot-stopper ahead of next season.

With the 24-year-old still working towards proving himself as a long-term solution, it would come as no surprise were the club to be keeping one eye on potential targets.

Atletico Madrid €100million-rated no.1 Jan Oblak is being monitored by Liverpool, according to Spanish outlet AS.

As with most rumours that originate in the Spanish press, this one is worth taking with a pinch of salt.

Oblak is contracted at the La Liga club until 2021 and seems relatively happy to stay put at this moment in time.

The Slovenian has surfaced as one of Europe’s in-demand elite goalkeepers – most of which have been linked to an Anfield switch.

Roma’s Alisson Becker is another to have cropped up on Jurgen Klopp’s supposed wishlist, although is likely to demand a fee upwards of £60million.

Reds will get the chance to see the Brazilian in action at first hand in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg.

Liverpool’s goalkeeping scenario has taken an intriguing turn in recent months, with Karius’ emergence having been tipped to spell the end of Simon Mignolet’s spell on Merseyside.

With that in mind and on Karius’ current form, it’s difficult to comprehend Klopp recruiting an immediate first choice and demoting his current starter to his previous understudy role.

A defining stage of the season for Liverpool potentially marks a defining audition for Karius.
