Mohamed Salah seemingly warranted worldwide attention on Sunday as his home town in Egypt watched him win the PFA Player of the Year award.

The Liverpool talisman’s emphatic season on Merseyside has combined with his inspirational role in leading his country to this summer’s World Cup finals in elevating him as something of a national treasure.

A string of domestic achievements follow up his 95th-minute penalty against Congo in October to book Egypt’s spot in Russia.

Salah has taken English football by storm at the second time of asking, firing an astonishing 41 goals across all competitions and helping the Reds reach a Champions League semi-final.

The town of Nagrig watched on as the 25-year-old beat Manchester City title-winner Kevin De Bruyne to the award.
