LFC ready to meet La Liga star’s €60m release clause – Spanish reports

Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs ready to meet the €60million release clause of Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

This comes from Spanish outlet Don Balon, so must be taken with a pinch of salt, though it is well documented that we’re in the market for a new ‘keeper this summer.

More reliable outlets such as Mundo Deportivo have also linked us with Cillessen in the recent past, and his buy-out clause and lack of first-team football for Barca perhaps makes him one of our more realistic targets at present.

It’s clear we need to do something in goal after unconvincing seasons from both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, and it seems likely we will act.

The Liverpool Echo report a new signing in that position is on the agenda, though there’s also a chance Danny Ward will be promoted to the first-team to fight Karius for the number one spot.

Cillessen seems a superior option, however, so let’s hope there’s some truth in the rumours as our options seem to be fast running out as the Echo state Roma’s Alisson looks out of reach.

The Dutchman may not have played much at Barcelona, but previously showed his quality at Ajax and would surely be an upgrade on Karius and Mignolet – that shouldn’t be too hard, surely.
