Gary Neville: Liverpool’s version of Torres was overrated
BBC Sport has confirmed that the Spaniard will play his football for Sagan Tosu in the J-League.
They sit 17th out of 18 in the league and the only other non-Japanese player on their books is Victor Ibarbo, the Colombian forward who enjoyed a short stint in the Premier League at Watford in 2015/16.
“I have had offers from France, Germany and even one from Spain but at no point did I ever think about going to another European team,” Torres said about the switch.
“I wanted a new challenge in a completely different place.”
The Spaniard earned cult-status at Anfield during a three and a half year spell after signing in 2007, but broke our hearts when he forced a move away from the club to join Chelsea in 2011.
Fans have forgiven him now though and look back fondly at his 81 goals which helped us become the highest ranked side in Europe at one point.
He’s now 34 and will likely play a couple of seasons in Japan, earn tens of millions and hang up his boots – nice work if you can get it!
