Naby Keita update: Reds midfielder battling for fitness

Naby Keita has not been ruled out of Saturday’s friendly with Manchester United, but it looks increasingly unlikely he’ll participate following the sore neck that saw him miss the City game!

The club have told fans that our 23-year-old sensation will sit out training over the next few days to ensure he’s back to full health, which suggests to us he won’t be taking part over the weekend.

That gives Keita one more friendly against Napoli on August 4th to get full up to speed, before the season gets underway on the 12th against West Ham at Anfield.

This summer, Keita’s been Liverpool’s most impressive performer by some distance, in our book.

The Guinean has absolutely everything needed to become a world-class attacking midfielder: energy, skill, vision, tenacity and flair – but he backs this up with physicality, work-rate and defensive nous.

In short, he’s the perfect no.8 – and someone entirely deserving of the shirt Steven Gerrard made available when he left in 2015.

Providing he’s ready for the West Ham clash, we’re happy to see Keita sit out against United. It’ll be more of a surprise to them when he rips them to shreds during 2018/19!
