Sergio Ramos has revealed he was sent death threats after his challenge prematurely ended Mohamed Salah’s Champions League final back in May.

The pair had engaged in a physical tussle for the ball that resulted in the Real Madrid captain landing awkwardly on the Liverpool man.

A tearful Salah was consequently forced off after just 30 minutes with a dislocated shoulder, which later saw him miss Egypt’s opening World Cup game.

Ramos has since insisted he had no malicious intentions of harming the forward and that his conscience is clear over the matter.

Having been booed by fans during Saturday’s UEFA Nations League clash between England and Spain, the 32-year-old has offered a reminder of the horrific messages he and his family have received since the incident in Kiev.

“I would have liked another reception because people only remember the action of the final, and nobody remembers the death threats that my family and my children received,” he told Sky Sports.

“It is a very sensitive issue that people maybe take as a joke about and [that’s why they] whistle in a great stadium like this. My conscience is very clear. I already explained [what happened], and I do not have to give more explanations.”

Ramos may have played the role of villain on the night, but there’s absolutely no excuse for either him or his family to be subjected to such vile messages.

Trent Alexander-Arnold recently summed up the matter to perfection when he simply noted the respect Ramos deserves as one of football’s serial winners.

The Spaniard will always divide opinion as one of the supposed masters of the sport’s darks arts, but will also always be recognised for his success at the top of the game.
