The latest update on injured Liverpool fan Sean Cox

Sean Cox

Sean Cox has been transferred to a rehab centre for further treatment on the life-changing injuries he suffered in an attack before last season’s Champions League semi-final first-leg against Roma.

The Liverpool fan and dad-of-three was put in a coma and subsequently forced to undergo an operation on bleeding to the brain.

Cox had been receiving full-time care at Beaumont Hospital back home in Ireland and reportedly regained consciousness early in July.

He has now been moved to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire, where he will continue his recovery, reports the Irish Examiner.

The 53-year-old’s local Gaelic football club St. Peters has now set up a fund raising campaign named ‘Support Sean’ in aid of contributing to his medical expenses.

In a statement of Facebook, St. Peters said: “Over the past number of months Sean has been taking small but important steps on a road to recovery.”

“His journey will be a long and difficult one and the focus will continue on ensuring the best possible care to maximise the potential in Sean’s recovery.”

Incredible support has flooded in on social media since the incident back in May, with Liverpool’s players holding a banner in his honour following their semi-final second-leg clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

The banner was later taken over to Ireland by creator Peter Carney and Spirit of Shankly’s Stephen Monaghan to be presented as a gift to Sean’s family.

We wish him all the very best as he continues his recovery. Keep fighting, Sean.

As of Saturday lunchtime, the GoFundMe page had raised €5,205 of a €500,000 target. You can donate to the cause here.
