Source explains LFC in contact with Agency over Germany international

Liverpool have ‘maintained an interest’ in Hoffenheim star Kerem Demirbay, according to Turkish Football.

They claim that following a conversation with a source we’re still in contact with the Arena 11 Sports Group, who manage Demirbay, as well as our current stars Sadio Mane and Naby Keita.

Demirbay is a 25-year-old midfielder who played for Turkey at youth level, before switching to represent Germany as a senior. He so far has two caps, but has done his best work in the Bundesliga under Julian Nagelsmann.

The young coach favours a passing style of football that values pressing and intensity, so in this respect, Demirbay would be well suited to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.

However, there isn’t really a spot available for him right now. In the summer, we signed Fabinho as the alternative option to Jordan Henderson at the base of our midfield, and the Brazil international hasn’t yet had a sniff.

On top of these two, we have Naby Keita, who we hope will eventually become an automatic starter once he finds his form, in-form Gini Wijnaldum, James Milner, the returning Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – whose absence is already being felt.

If we are to enter the market, it’ll surely be for a playmaker rather than a controller.
